The Piggyback Foundation received several referrals from the community regarding the Smith family. We received their application in January of 2008 and are pleased to be able to help this well loved family.
Tim, a twelve year old boy, was diagnosed with a relapse of leukemia and has extended stays at Cleveland Clinic for his treatments. Tim's mother, Allison, or his father, Jeff, is at his side at all times.
The family was awarded a grant to help pay for their daughter, Emily's participation in a traveling volleyball league. Emily will also receive homework help through our Education Counts Program.
The Piggyback Foundation was able to provide assistance in finding a caregiver for the children and housecleaning. This alleviates stress and allows for family time when Allison and Jeff are able to be home.
Tim recently returned home for a short stay. The Piggyback Foundation gave him an afternoon of shopping at Wal-Mart for some necessities, treats and games! Allison said that it was the first time Tim felt well enough for them all to enjoy the weekend together and have some precious family time.
Meals have been provided by Casa Fiesta and Dominoes Pizza. Our Family Counts Meals Program will be providing meals for the family during Jeff's recovery from heart surgery.
On March 19, 2008, Tim lost his battle with cancer. We are praying for Tim and his family and will continue to support them through this time of grieving.
